Scattering Seeds of Hope

This book deals with one of the greatest difficulties we all face in our Christian life, that of sharing our faith with others in personal evangelism. Two problems he faces are discouragement and fear. Jeremy writes: ‘Take heart from the disciples. They were truly terrible evangelists and pretty much everything they touched in this area turned to disaster. And what was Jesus’ reaction to their (and our) incompetence? Incredible patience and incredible training.’

This book is, as the author writes, ‘a kind of training regime’. At the end of each chapter there are helpful hints about how we can share the gospel with people around us. The book encourages us to do what we can, where we can, recognising that it is like scattering seeds but we can be sure that the Holy Spirit is at work behind the scenes.

The book looks at two very helpful ways of doing this: Q & A’s and storytelling, both methods that Jesus used.

Jeremy uses the analogy of a footbridge: just as we don’t try to drive an enormous juggernaut across, so we need to be patient in introducing people to the great truths of the gospel. Our own story might be like a little garden path to a wonderful house. There is a chapter on the power of weakness and the illustration of Moses hearing God’s answer, ‘I will help you.’ There is a chapter on the use of social media and it finishes with some great encouragements. Prayer is a vital ingredient of success, the work of the Holy Spirit is crucial, the power of the Word of God is like fertile seed and salvation is a miracle of God.

Why not read the book and just go for it?
