I see this book as a discussion starter. It is short, at just 100 pages, but that doesn’t mean it is a simple book. The author, who is British, doesn’t acknowledge either an egalitarian or a complementarian position but uses plenty of lived examples of women’s experiences in the church in the text. I thought this would annoy me at first but I realised how useful it is to be able to see clearly what the challenges are in enabling committed believing women to be able to serve the Lord in their local churches and beyond. There are plenty of Bible verses to look up and a lot of questions for discussion.
The book is practical. I found the chapter on how men and women relate in the church so useful. Every church leader should read this chapter. The author rattles the cage of the status quo but I think she does so sensibly and sensitively.
