Book review — Raising Emotionally Healthy Kids - Help For Parents

This book is the sixth in a series of books called ‘Raising kids’ published in partnership with the Biblical Counselling Coalition. I was heartened to read in one of the blurbs that this book is ‘developmentally appropriate and psychologically sound.’ The author is a Christian counsellor and a parent and she writes from the realistic world of 21st century parents. The author explores six tips in the book: nurture them wholly; understand their capacity; regard their feelings; cultivate lasting hope; attend to yourself; know when to get help.

The book is biblical in content but also draws on what I would call insights from common grace. I particularly appreciated the author’s nuanced comments on research into the teenage brain. Every parent will benefit from the information provided about developmental stages. This is one of the best books I have read about parenting in a long while – every parent should have a copy!
