Book review — Prone to wander

Wandering — what used to be called ‘backsliding’ — isn’t a subject Christians readily want to engage with. Perhaps that term is kinder, but whatever you want to call it, there are times or seasons in the lives of most believers when we wander off from the Lord and ‘do our own thing’. Natalie fills this short book with biblical and contemporary illustrations as she tackles the problem of straying from the Lord, the comfort that the gospel brings and tips for practical self-care. The author tackles the issue of backsliding in times of trial and suffering — bringing a short passage on the biblical theology of suffering to bear. The fact that no-one is beyond God’s grace, however far they have slipped is also a comforting message from this book — if only more lapsed Christians could grasp that reality! There are short prayers, moments to think and meditations throughout the book, making it an ideal choice for one to one reading or even a home group study. Every Christian should invest in this book — for your own good — or for the good of others.
