Book review — Overcoming Walls To Witnessing

On my short walks around my locality during lockdown, I often pray for a chance encounter that could lead to a short socially-distanced conversation about the gospel. This book spurs me on in my endeavours. The author is Associate Dean of the Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism and Ministry, as well as being a Professor at The Southern Baptist Seminary, so he should know his subject well.

In 89 pages, Timothy Beougher explores common barriers to witnessing, such as personal fear, giftedness, ignorance, apathy, introspection and busyness. Each reason, barrier or excuse is answered from a biblical perspective, and the answers are persuasive. Witnessing is something we can all do, in our way. This book would make a useful study book for a home group.

‘Thousands of people die each day and enter a Christ-less eternity. The question is, “Do we care?” As Christians, we have the message that can save people from this fate – the message that can set them free. We must remember the gospel is the Good News! People are hungry and waiting.’
