Book review — Making Faith Magnetic

The five ‘magnetic points’, as Dan Strange explains, are themes that every culture operates by that can have a draw to the God who made us. He unashamedly takes them from theologian Herman Bavinck and repurposes them for today. These five themes can be both subverted by the good news of Jesus (when they are falsely located in something else) and find fulfilment in him.

The first half of the book is about understanding these points from the perspective of our society and the second half demonstrates the gospel connection with each of them. The final chapter is a great encouragement for us to live magnetically – by showing that Jesus is the fulfilment of these themes in our own lives. For those who wish to grow in their thinking and practice of evangelism, particularly through engaging with culture, this would be a great place to turn.
