Book review — Finding The Right Hills To Die On

Knowing which beliefs are of first importance (and therefore worth dying on a hill for) and which aren’t is pretty important. It keeps us from accepting heresy whilst helping to avoid unnecessary divisions and squabbles. In this book, Gavin Ortlund offers a system for thinking through doctrines, locating them in four different levels of importance: essential; urgent; important; unimportant. It’s not a dry book, as could easily be the case with this kind of topic. Instead Ortlund shows the practical importance of doing this using real scenarios. He shares his own wrestles with various doctrines and how he has worked out their level of significance.
