Book review — Finding Mercy On The Way Of Sorrow

This devotional covers the period of Lent but even if you don’t follow the church calendar there is plenty to learn from this book at any time of the year. It is 40 daily reflections from the book of Lamentations. I confess to a love/hate relationship with Lamentations as it seems miserable but the author aims to bring treasure from this Bible book for broken people, which seems appropriate for the situation in our world at the moment.

I loved the layout of the book, short chapters, text separated into bite-size chunks with the careful placement of headings and a textbox of short application with a suggestion of a song to listen to. I appreciated the fact that not all the application was individualistic and some was corporate. This makes the book a useful resource for small groups. I am not going to wait for Easter to start going through it slowly!
