Book review — Does Atheism make sense?

This book is a clever exploration of atheism in which John Blanchard tackles six key questions: Does atheism make cosmic sense, reasonable sense, scientific sense, living sense, human sense or moral sense? He then counter-argues that belief in God does make sense by examining the same issues from a Christian perspective.

The chapters are short and accessible. The entire book is only 70 pages long and can easily be read in one sitting. There are plenty of scientific and historical examples to back up his arguments, which are taken from a wide variety of sources. The later chapters give useful Bible references and also quote others who have grappled with the mysteries of the ‘thereafter’.

If you are contemplating debating this subject in academic circles or looking for a good gift for someone professing atheism, then this book is for you. It is apologetic in nature but stays focused on our implicit need of a saviour.
