Book review — A Jesus Christmas

My eldest daughter was 5 years old when we first used this book for advent. I had   just 6 months earlier. She knew the basic Christmas story and some of the more popular Bible stories, but she was still learning how they fit together. This book was just what she needed. It shows how Jesus is there in the whole Bible by looking at the Fall, Abraham, Moses and the rest of the Old Testament. It then shows how Jesus fulfils the Old Testament prophecies about himself. My heart thrilled to hear her thank God for ‘Jesus who crushed Satan’s head’ one evening.

Each day has a passage to read, an explanation and questions. The questions are divided into two age groups and are aimed at ages 3-7 and 7-11.

Here in Uganda, just as in the United Kingdom, it is easy for our focus to become misplaced at Christmas as we get caught up in the busyness and the excitement. This book will help your family spend time each day focusing on the wonder of that first Christmas, on how God planned all of history leading up to that point, on the gospel and on who Jesus is. With hearts rejoicing in what God has done for us we can then enjoy all the associated treats and excitement of Christmas even more as they remind us about Jesus.

I asked my eldest earlier if she thought other 7 year olds would like this book. She replied, ‘Definitely! It will tell them all about Jesus and how much he loves them and died for them. Can we do it again this year please?’
