At the end of a wet day leading a Beach Mission programme in a church in Mumbles, a teenager came up to me and exclaimed, ‘I remember you from my primary school assemblies!’ She explained that her grandmother had been encouraging her to come to church, but she wasn’t interested. However, after hearing the gospel clearly that morning during the Beach Mission programme, she wanted to find out more and gladly took a gospel tract home with her. A few days later, we received a message from her grandmother, ‘She’s given her life to the Lord!’
That is why I continue to do Beach Mission, regardless of the weather or the size of the team. What a huge privilege it is for me as a local evangelist to see the continuation of the work in my city and to see God transforming lives today.
I was encouraged to join a Beach Mission team after coming to faith at the age of 15. I went to a Beach Mission at New Quay, west Wales and have been back to various missions every year since. I believe it is through this work that God has led me to where I am today working in local churches and schools sharing the good news of Jesus. If he can enable a shy young man from Swansea to become an evangelist, he can use anyone!
As a leader, I now have the privilege of seeing the next generation of our church serving on Beach Missions. We enjoy a daily Team Time where we spend time together as a team looking at God’s Word and praying for one another. Team members are trained in evangelism and Bible story-telling as well as being given ‘on-the-job’ training which is vital not only to the week of mission, but is then taken back to their sending churches to bless their children’s and youth ministries across the country.
